Governor Jeff Landry is planning to bring more crime fighting help to Shreveport. He recently announced a plan for beefed up efforts in Baton Rouge. And now, the Governor tells KEEL Newshe’s planning to bring more help from the feds and the state to Shreveport.
Shreveport Crime Has Been in National Spotlight
The Governor of California Gavin Newsom recently called out Shreveport for high violent crime numbers. It was a slam on House Speaker Mike Johnson, essentially saying he should worry more about crime in his own district rather than other parts of the country. Governor Landry says a plan was put in place in New Orleans earlier this year and he says it’s working. Landry told KEEL “I figured if you could fix New Orleans, you could pretty much fix any place in Louisiana.” He says this effort has helped his team learn about strategies that work to drive down crime. He’s rolled out a similar effort in Baton Rouge and Shreveport is next on the Governor’s list.
What Efforts from the Feds Will Be Involved?
Landry says Attorney General Pam Bondi and FBI Director Kash Patel have pledged to support these efforts in Louisiana. The Governor says they have been working behind the scenes to bring federal resources into Louisiana.
The Governor says these are much needed efforts in the largest cities in our state. But Landry did have some praise for local District Attorney James Stewart.
I gotta tell you so far. I’ve heard good reports that the District Attorney is doing good things to move cases to trial. I’m glad to hear that and if he continues to do those things we’re gonna bring the resources necessary…
