Four arrested in string of vehicle burglaries in West Baton Rouge Parish

BATON ROUGE, La. (Louisiana First) — West Baton Rouge Parish Sheriff Jeff Bergeron announced that four people were arrested after a series of vehicle burglaries early Thursday morning left residents missing firearms, cash, and personal belongings.

Deputies responded to 12 burglary reports in neighborhoods between Rosedale Road and U.S. 190. At least 15 firearms, along with money, a laptop, a passport, and other valuables, were stolen from unlocked vehicles.

An investigation led detectives to a suspect vehicle in Lafayette Parish, where they arrested Samaya Charles, 17, of Lafayette. Police searched Charles’ home and car. WBRSO said they found a stolen gun from West Baton Rouge and clothes that matched what was seen in a video.

Charles was booked into the West Baton Rouge Parish Detention Center and charged with:

  • 10 counts of principal to aggravated burglary.
  • Two counts of principal to simple burglary.
  • One count of obstruction of justice.

On Saturday, with the help of the St. Martin Parish Sheriff’s Office, deputies executed a search warrant at a Breaux Bridge home. WBRSO said three more suspects were arrested, and 10 firearms were found, including three confirmed stolen from Vermilion, St. Martin, and West Baton Rouge parishes…
