Drago’s returns: Perkins Rowe welcomes ‘Home of the original charbroiled oyster’

BATON ROUGE — The wait is almost over for Drago’s Seafood fans in Baton Rouge. The “home of the original charbroiled oyster” is getting a new home in Perkins Rowe next month.

The beloved seafood restaurant closed earlier this year, after it was bought out of its lease along Constitution Avenue. Drago’s grand opening is scheduled for Tuesday, September 2 at 6 p.m., and on Wednesday, September 3, Rockin’ Dopsie will be performing in Perkins Rowe Square from 6 p.m-9 p.m.

“In life, we’re not given opportunities to make a first impression twice,” said Drago’s owner Tommy Cvitanovich. “Drago’s has been blessed by that opportunity.”

The original New Orleans restaurant opened in 1969. Drago and Klara Cvitanovich started the family legacy of oysters and fresh seafood. Now, their sons Tommy and Jerry Cvitanovich carry on the legacy…
