BATON ROUGE, La. (Louisiana First) — Almost $30,000 in Baton Rouge parks and recreation agency equipment is missing, according to an audit released Monday.
The audit for the fiscal year ending in December 2023 outlined three public asset thefts, including:
- mowers, edgers, trimmers, gas and bolt cutters totaling $12,191 taken from Greenwood Community Park.
- mower worth $16,298 taken from the Dumas Memorial Golf Course.
- misappropriation of $1,449 from the administrative office due to a phishing scam.
Auditors stated the $1,449 was recovered, but the equipment remained missing. According to the report, BREC notified law enforcement about thefts.
“We recommend BREC continue its prosecution and\or pursuit of these matters and that the internal controls be reviewed and potentially revised to deter such instances from occurring in the future,” the audit said…
