LSP: Fight led up to shooting that killed one deputy & the suspect, critically injured another at Iberville Courthouse

PLAQUEMINE — One Iberville Parish Sheriff’s deputy is dead and another is recovering after a suspect allegedly opened fire during an interrogation at the Iberville Parish Courthouse around 7:50 p.m. Monday.

According to Louisiana State Police (LSP), which is the investigating agency, an Iberville Parish Sheriff’s (IPSO) detective was interviewing 27-year-old Latrell Mikal Ornee Clark of White Castle in connection with a sex crimes investigation. At the end of the interview, the IPSO detective informed Clark that he was under arrest.

LSP says that Clark resisted and attempted to disarm the detective, resulting in a struggle, in which several gunshots were fired. As a result, Clark, the detective, and a responding IPSO deputy were all struck by gunfire…
