BATON ROUGE, La. (WAFB) – BREC’s Baton Rouge Zoo has a lot to celebrate as its beloved and historic jaguar cub, Lacumba III, turns one.
The cub, named after Southern University’s mascot, is the first jaguar cub born at the zoo in over 20 years. According to the zoo, she’s part of the Jaguar Species Survival Plan, a program focused on protecting and preserving this incredible species.
The Baton Rouge Zoo shared several photos of Lacumba enjoying a birthday banner that was hung in her habitat, which was then happily torn down by the jaguars to play around with.
The zoo says Lacumba III, who loves spending time with her mom and exploring every corner of her habitat, honors Louisiana’s heritage while symbolizing hope for this near-threatened species…
