ZACHARY — Over the last 20 months, Jason Blount has had 18 open heart surgeries, a spinal stroke, and spent nearly a year and a half in the hospital. But through it all, he has refused to give up.
“He wants to spread the word that you can make it through things. You can get to where, maybe not where you want to be, maybe not your plan, 100%,” Jason’s wife Candace told UWK. “But you can get to where you need to be, by grace and by the help and by communities and by families.”
First signs
January 15, 2024, was just like any normal day for the Blounts. Jason was feeling good and helped his dad cut some trees down. But when he woke up the next morning, he wasn’t feeling well, and spent the day resting. He noticed that his hip was hurting a bit, but that was pretty normal after his hip replacement surgery a few years back, and he didn’t think much of it.
He went to lay down and called Candace about an hour later because he couldn’t move his right arm. Within 20 minutes, he started losing mobility in his right leg. “We weren’t sure what was going on. He was still coherent. He was still talking. We couldn’t figure out what was happening,” Candace said…
