BATON ROUGE, La. (WAFB) – Baton Rouge church families attending a wedding in Jamaica are riding out Hurricane Melissa after the Category 5 storm made landfall as the strongest hurricane in the island’s history.
Thirty-five people, including church leaders, wedding party members, and friends, are stranded at a Jamaican hotel after flights were canceled. The group traveled to Jamaica last week for the wedding of Corey Johnson and Trinity Ford.
“That happened without no hesitations, without no disruptions from the weather,” said Paster Stephen Johnson, the father of the groom. “And it seemed after that, even as the reception happened, that’s when the weather began to decline. But we are in a good place.”
