Local Dentist Office Buys Back Halloween Candy to Support Troops Overseas

BATONROUGE Have a ton of Halloween candy you don’t know what to do with? A local dentist’s office is once again collecting candy for U.S. troops stationed overseas.

Model Dentistry, led by Timothy Raborn, DDS & Associates, is inviting the Baton Rouge community to participate in its annual Halloween candy buyback program. Dr. Timothy Raborn, a U.S. Air Force veteran, is offering children $1 per pound for their extra Halloween candy, which will be shipped to troops overseas as a gesture of gratitude and support.

Dr. Raborn, who has owned Model Dentistry for nearly 40 years, started the buyback program over a decade ago as a way to reduce kids’ sugar intake while giving back to the military community. After a brief pause, he and his daughter, Dr. Lucy Raborn, DDS, who recently joined the practice, decided to bring back the popular tradition.

“It’s pretty much like a win-win. I think for kids and parents, it’s a great lesson to teach them to help support our military,” said Dr. Raborn. “But then, as dentists, we get to lower sugar consumption going around with the kids, which is nice. Most importantly, it gives the troops some positivity and support from afar.”…
