House without working smoke alarm destroyed by fire; resident escapes

BATON ROUGE, La. (WAFB) – Firefighters are once again reminding residents to have a working smoke detector installed after a house without one was destroyed on Monday, Nov. 10.

The fire happened just before noon on Iberia Street near Breckenridge Avenue.

According to the Baton Rouge Fire Department, it was the heat from the fire that woke up the resident, who then safely made it outside.

Officials said there were no working smoke detectors in the home…
