(Baton Rouge, LA) Our sources at the Louisiana Lottery offices in Baton Rouge have confirmed a single ticket sold for Friday’s Mega Millions Lottery matched all the numbers needed to earn the game’s jackpot prize. The game had not produced a jackpot winner since June of this year.
The jackpot prize of $980 million was the 8th largest jackpot in the game’s history. It is also the largest jackpot prize awarded since the Mega Millions game changed its format in April of this year.
In that format, ticket prices increased from $2 $3 to a flat $5 per ticket rate. Under the old rules of the game, a player could purchase a ticket for $2. Then, for an extra dollar, add the “Megaplier,” a prize multiplier drawn separately from the “game play” balls.
Under the new rules of the game, a multiplier is automatically assigned to each ticket purchased. The multipliers can range from “x2″ to “x10″. We have seen what the “x10″ multiplier can do; that’s an easy way for a small win to become dinner for the family if you know what I mean.
I don’t mean to toot my own horn, but last week we predicted this win almost to the exact day. We actually had the winning ticket being drawn either last Friday or this past Wednesday. We determined that prediction by tracking jackpot wins in the game over its history, and I won’t say that we nailed it, but we nailed it…
