Man arrested in connection with deadly Hanks Drive shooting in Baton Rouge

BATON ROUGE, La. (Louisiana First) — A Baton Rouge man was arrested in connection with a deadly shooting on Hanks Drive in Baton Rouge.

According to an affidavit, East Baton Rouge Sheriff’s Office deputies responded to a shooting in the 6500 block of Hanks Drive at an apartment complex around 9 p.m. on Nov. 20. When they arrived, they discovered a man, later identified as 23-year-old Byron Horton, on the sidewalk with multiple gunshot wounds. Horton died of his injuries, officials said.

Further investigation revealed that video surveillance captured Horton walking around the complex with another subject. The two were armed at the time. Before the shooting, deputies saw a gray Ford Focus entering the apartment complex’s parking lot near Building 10 of the complex. The driver of the Focus was later identified as 20-year-old Tyler Ricks. Minutes before the shooting, several subjects were seen exiting Building 10 wearing all black. Horton entered a Nissan Altima.

The affidavit states Ricks exited the parking spot, and Horton followed. Ricks then backed into another parking spot, closer to the crime scene, and the Nissan Altima stopped in the middle of the lot. Horton exited the vehicle, and gunfire erupted. The passenger of the Focus opened fire at the other group of people. Ricks exited the vehicle and retreated near the trunk, according to CCTV footage…
