‘I cried most of the day’: A holiday surprise brings hope to Baton Rouge students and their families

BATON ROUGE, La. (WAFB) – For a select group of Baton Rouge students, a simple shopping trip turned into a meaningful moment just days before Christmas.

More than a dozen children from schools across the area were treated to an all-expenses-paid shopping spree at Macy’s, thanks to the local nonprofit BRidge Agency, in partnership with the Baton Rouge Police Department, Louisiana State Police, and the East Baton Rouge Parish Sheriff’s Office.

The students were chosen by their respective counselors based on a variety of factors, including living conditions, past trauma, and other challenges that can impact a child’s life. For many families, organizers say, the opportunity came at a time when the holidays might have otherwise looked very different…
