A Louisiana Christmas: This Baton Rouge Beauregard Town home pays homage to family and history

In Baton Rouge’s Beauregard Town is a house decked to the halls, but not with typical Christmas decor.

Ethan Melancon and his partner, Dario Scalco, sat on their front porch in their winter sweaters in rocking chairs Friday morning, enjoying the chilly weather. Through the front door, New Orleans jazz filled the house, complementing the curation of historical and natural homages to Melancon’s Louisiana heritage.

Melancon was born in Thibodeaux, Louisiana, and has roots dating back to France and Canada. He believes the best holiday decoration honors what matters most during the season: family and tradition.

“Christmas and Mardi Gras do this to me,” he said. “It’s when we’re able to pull back to our heritage and different stories of family members gone past, just like how people did it then.”…
