West Baton Rouge Animal Shelter looking for holiday fosters

PORT ALLEN — There’s still time to give a four-legged friend a home for the holidays. Right now, many animal shelters, including West Baton Rouge Animal Shelter are making a push to get cats and dogs into foster homes for Christmas and the new year.

“We’re always looking for fosters, but we do a little special push right before the holidays,” George Bragg, Superintendent of West Baton Rouge Mosquito and Animal Control Departments said. “It’s good for the animals to be in a home for the holidays. And, it helps us a lot. We usually have limited staff and short weeks with the holidays, so the more animals we have out of the shelter, the better.”

Bragg says the shelter is open to both long-term and short-term fosters. And in some instances, fostering can even turn into an adoption. “A lot of times the family falls in love with the animal, and sometimes it turns into an adoption,” Bragg said.

Right now, the shelter is in pretty good shape when it comes to its capacity. “We’ve had quite a few adoptions, and we’ve also had quite a few people stepping up to foster, so we are at less than half capacity,” Bragg said…
