Pimento cheese balls at Eliza; fried green tomatoes at Parrain’s
We usually sail past the appetizers, saving room and calories for the main event (entrée). However, two recent occasions have prompted us to pay more attention to that first column on menus.
A pimento cheese lover since childhood, Eliza’s pimento cheese ball appetizer sounded too good to pass by. It was scrumptious, from the three spheres’ light, slightly crunchy exterior to the cheddar cheese and sambal oelek (Indonesian chili paste) within. Balancing out the slight spiciness of the chili paste was a satisfyingly sweet hibiscus pepper jelly dipping sauce.
A sprinkling of fresh parsley flakes completed the attractive presentation.
I see this dish as a pleasing add-on to drinks at the inviting bar after work…
