On a clear and brisk New Year’s Eve, the first baby of 2026 in Baton Rouge was born at 12:01 a.m. Thursday to loving parents Gabrielle and Gerard at Woman’s Hospital. They named her Blossom for “becoming something new.”
“It’s crazy because it’s the new year, so it’s like she’s the first. It’s gonna be the beginning of the new year, our new life, a new season,” Gerard said.
Baby Blossom arrived about a week early from her due date and weighed 6 pounds, 3.8 ounces and measured 19 inches. Mom and baby are both doing well.
