Martin Luther King Jr. Day events in, near Baton Rouge for 2026

BATON ROUGE, La. (Louisiana First) — Residents in the Baton Rouge area can attend community service events or programs for Martin Luther King Jr. Day.

The federal holiday honoring civil rights leader Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. falls on Monday, Jan. 19.

Here is a list of events planned in the Baton Rouge area this year. This article will be updated as more events are announced.

Ascension Parish

MLK Day of Service: Community Volunteer Day

The River Road African American Museum will host a day of service for all ages. Activities include community trash pickup, museum cleaning, gardening and grounds beautification. Free food will be offered to volunteers.

East Baton Rouge Parish

Million Meals for MLK

People can give back to the Greater Baton Rouge Food Bank in honor of Martin Luther King Jr. during January. Volunteer Louisiana and Feeding Louisiana organize the initiative.

District 2 MLK Day of Service

Councilman Anthony Kenney calls on District 2 residents to volunteer. People can sign up now online.

  • When: 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Jan. 17.
  • Where: Jewel J. Newman Community Center (2013 Central Road, Baton Rouge).

MLK Fest 2026
