I-TEAM: BRPD officer was driving 83 mph moments before hitting cyclist in neighborhood

BATON ROUGE, La. (WAFB) – Dash-cam footage captured a Baton Rouge police officer slamming into a bicyclist while traveling 83 mph in a 25 mph zone as he rushed to help another officer in March 2025. The video was released by the Baton Rouge Police Department with heavy redactions this week after the WAFB I-TEAM submitted a public records request for it nine months ago.

Officer Stefan Jones was responding to an “officer in trouble” call with his lights activated when he struck Dwayne Washington, also known as Dede, on Louise Street near Thomas Delpit close to the McKinley Alumni Center on March 16, 2025.

The department’s legal team heavily blurred the footage before releasing it, making it impossible to see what happened before, though the sound of the collision and engine revving can be heard…
