Teacher in Pointe Coupee Parish accused of tripping, dragging child arrested on felony charge

BATON ROUGE, La. (Louisiana First) — An elementary school teacher in Pointe Coupee Parish was arrested on a felony charge after she was accused of tripping and dragging a child who was running past her.

The Pointe Coupee Parish Sheriff’s Office confirmed that the teacher, identified as Ebony Knighten, 37, faces a charge of cruelty to juveniles in connection with the incident that took place on Jan. 8.

Knighten was a teacher at Rosenwald Elementary School in New Roads, La.
