Spaghetti from Jed’s Local
I’ve been trying a lot of Italian food lately, as someone who largely didn’t eat the cuisine growing up. After trying carbonara, bolognese and cannelloni from various spots, I decided the next dish on this Italian escapade should be a comforting classic.
Enter Jed Local’s Thursday lunch special: spaghetti and meatballs with housemade marinara, Parmesan and toasted bread. This was a dish my Cuban abuela made for my brothers and I growing up (really my only exposure to Italian food), and as corny as it is, I felt transported back to her kitchen, sitting at her counter, eating her rendition of the pasta.
Inside the Mid-City restaurant, the meatballs were juicy and packed with flavor. The marinara was delightful, and the dish felt like nostalgia, love and heartiness all on one plate. What a treat…
