BATON ROUGE, La. (WAFB) – A Baton Rouge woman lost her family home of more than 60 years to demolition after the city-parish said she failed to make required repairs following a blight complaint.
Carolyn Williams had lived in the home on North 29th Street since 1960, when her mother had it bricked. Williams said the bricks “would have stood another hundred years.”
After her parents passed, Williams continued living in the home for many years. She said she kept the grass cut, but some parts of the house needed repairs, eventually leading to a blight complaint with the city-parish. Officials told her to get a new roof among other repairs, sell the property, or risk having it torn down…
