FEMA sends $3.79M in upfront emergency funding to Louisiana after winter storm

BATON ROUGE, La. (Louisiana First) — The Federal Emergency Management Agency is sending emergency funding to Louisiana following the recent severe winter storm.

FEMA is now providing funds upfront. This allows the state to respond quickly to protect lives and essential infrastructure, rather than waiting weeks or months for reimbursements. Federal officials said this plan aims to cut delays. It also lets states respond quickly in serious emergencies.

FEMA provided Category B Public Assistance funding through updated emergency declarations. This funding helps cover emergency protective measures already taken and supports ongoing response efforts. Extreme winter conditions posed risks to public safety and essential services, a news release said.
