Southern University Baton Rouge takes on low graduation rates: ‘Biggest thing we’ve got to tackle’

At Southern University in Baton Rouge, administrators are staring down a knotty problem that touches generations of students and alumni: the graduation rate.

The vast majority of students at the Capital City campus struggle to complete their degrees on time. According to data reported to the National Center for Education Statistics, only 11% of full-time students in the 2016 class earned their bachelor’s degree within four years — 30% within six years.
