Baton Rouge Catholic school closes Monday after flu spike

Sacred Heart of Jesus Catholic School in Baton Rouge closed its campus Monday thanks to a spike in flu cases among students and staff but plans to reopen Tuesday.

The elementary school announced the news in an email to parents sent out Sunday afternoon.

“Unfortunately, we currently have over 40% of our student body either sick or unsure if they will be well enough to attend school. In addition, more than 41% of our faculty and staff are out sick or caring for an ill child,” according to the email. “With these numbers, it is clear that we need to pause and allow our community time to recover.”…
