Churches providing ashes on the go on Ash Wednesday

BATON ROUGE, La. (WAFB) – Following the parades and parties of Mardi Gras, people across the Baton Rouge area will mark Ash Wednesday.

Ash Wednesday in 2026 is being observed on Wednesday, Feb. 18.

While many people will attend a church service to receive ashes, some places of worship will provide ashes on the go. Below is a list of some area churches that have announced plans to provide drive-thru ashes:

  • First United Methodist Church of Baton Rouge (930 North Blvd., Baton Rouge): There will be a drive-thru imposition of ashes at America Street between 7 a.m. and 8 a.m.
  • University Methodist at LSU (3350 Dalrymple Dr., Baton Rouge: Ashes to go are being offered at 7 a.m. in the UUMC front parking lot and at 12 p.m. inside LSU’s Free Speech Alley.
  • Jordon United Methodist Church (4619 Stearnes St., Baton Rouge: Ashes will be provided in a drive-thru between 11 a.m. and 1 p.m. and again from 5:30 p.m. to 6: p.m.
  • Faith Crossing UMC at Friendship Campus (34260 Walker North Rd., Walker): You can drive through the church’s front circle anytime between 4 p.m. and 6 p.m. to receive ashes on Ash Wednesday.
