BATON ROUGE, La. (Louisiana First) — Baton Rouge-born actress Lynn Whitfield was awarded a key to the city Thursday in honor of her contributions to the arts and representing Black excellence.
Whitfield, 73, is an award-winning actress who has had a decades-long career in movies and television. She won a Primetime Emmy for her role in the 1991 drama “The Josephine Baker Story.” She also starred in the 1997 thriller/drama “Eve’s Bayou,” which is set in Louisiana.
“Receiving this key was different for me because I receive this one for my ancestors, for the people who actually taught me how much to love this place,” Whitfield said after being presented with the key at the city’s annual Black History Month program…
