The Raising Cane’s River Center became a stage for celebration, as Baton Rouge honored one of its brightest stars, Lynn Whitfield, and longtime community leader former councilman W.T. Winfield during the Black History Month program “For the Culture,” on Feb. 19, 2026.

Winfield, who previously served on the East Baton Rouge Metro Council, has been active in local government and community advocacy for decades. During his time in office, he supported measures focused on neighborhood revitalization, infrastructure improvements and public safety. Supporters credit him with pushing for policies aimed at increasing investment in underserved areas and expanding access to city services.
In addition to his council tenure, Winfield has worked with civic and faith-based organizations on initiatives tied to education, youth mentorship and voter engagement.
