Truce and Chaos Takes Over Uncle Earl’s Turf on Perkins Road

Perkins Road’s late-night lineup is getting a shakeup as a new cocktail bar called Truce and Chaos moves into the former Uncle Earl’s space, according to local filings and the bar’s own promotional materials. The concept leans into its name with two distinct vibes: an earlier “truce” mode built around conversation and elevated cocktails, and a louder “chaos” mode that kicks in later for a full-on party atmosphere. Uncle Earl’s closed in mid-January, leaving behind one of Baton Rouge’s more recognizable after-dark storefronts for a new operator to claim.

As reported by WhatNow, city construction paperwork shows a permit filed for the former Uncle Earl’s unit that lists the new business name as Truce and Chaos and identifies Joshua Duke as the applicant. The filing notes a buildout of the existing Perkins Road space to prepare it for the incoming bar.

Owner and concept

Duke, named on the permit filing, is a co-owner of Olive or Twist, a Baton Rouge cocktail spot known for its extensive menu and handcrafted drinks. inRegister has profiled Duke and Olive or Twist, and the bar’s own history plays up its cocktail focus and energetic dining room. Truce and Chaos, according to its website, is built around “two opposing forces” and invites guests to “Come early for the conversation. Stay late for the chaos,” signaling a split personality between relaxed lounge and high-energy hangout.

Former tenant and timeline

Uncle Earl’s had been operating at the Perkins Road address since 2018 before shutting down in mid-January. WBRZ reported on the closure and noted that the now-vacant space was already on the radar for a new bar concept. The subsequent permit activity for Truce and Chaos appears aimed at reworking that location for its next late-night chapter.

When it might open

For now, the new bar is playing things close to the vest. Truce and Chaos’s website and early social media posts tease the dual-mood idea and repeat the tagline “Come early for the conversation. Stay late for the chaos,” but they stop short of naming an opening date. WhatNow similarly notes that the timetable has not been made public. The project currently appears to be in the permitting phase and moving through interior buildout…
