‘Kids were crying and running’ | Gunfire near Gardere ballpark sparks outrage

BATON ROUGE What was supposed to be a weekend of youth baseball, family fun, and charity quickly turned into chaos and fear after gunfire erupted near a crowded ballpark in the Gardere area of East Baton Rouge Parish.

Deputies say one person died in a shooting that happened around noon Saturday, March 7, on Old Hermitage Parkway near General Jackson Avenue, just outside BREC’s Hartley/Vey Park at Gardere and Traction Sports.
