Driver was speeding before fatal truck crash in Ascension Parish, troopers say

A Ponchatoula man was killed Saturday evening when his pickup truck crashed into a utility pole while he was driving at an excessive speed in Prairieville, according to Louisiana State Police.

Troopers responded to a single-vehicle crash just after 6 p.m. on La. 42 near Log Cabin Road in Ascension Parish. Christian Harrell, 28, was driving a 2004 Chevrolet Silverado at a high speed when he traveled off the left side of the road, entered a ditch and struck the pole, according to a news release.

Harrell, who was not wearing a seat belt, was ejected from the vehicle and sustained serious injuries. He was transported to a hospital where later he died…
