73 days apart: Baton Rouge parents lose two sons after back-to-back shootings, now plead for change

BATON ROUGE — Charles Wright’s voice is hoarse from crying as he talks about his sons, both shot to death less than three months apart.

De’Vonte Coleman, 17, was shot last week in what police described as an accidental shooting in a bedroom at his mother’s Ozark Street home. He died Saturday. His younger brother, Charleston Wright, 16, was shot to death Jan. 8, by a stray bullet outside the same house.

The time between the two deaths was 73 days.
