Louisiana trooper accused of domestic abuse, other charges arrested

BATON ROUGE, La. (Louisiana First) — A Louisiana State Police trooper was arrested on multiple charges after an investigation into domestic abuse allegations.

James Jefferson III, 41, of Baton Rouge, was arrested after an investigation by agents found allegations of physical abuse and interference with law enforcement investigations. According to the Louisiana Bureau of Investigation (LBI), Jefferson is accused of providing false information when filing records in the 19th Judicial District Court and destroying evidence.

Jefferson faces charges of three counts of obstruction of justice, two counts of filing false public records, and one count each of aggravated second-degree battery, domestic abuse battery in the presence of minors and domestic abuse battery by strangulation.
