Baker mayor proposes limits on new salons, barbershops, and tire shops along major corridors

BAKER, La. (WAFB) – A proposal from Baker’s mayor to limit certain types of businesses is sparking debate about economic growth and opportunity in the city.

Mayor Darnell Waites is pushing for a temporary ban on new hair salons and barbershops from being built along two of Baker’s busiest corridors, Main Street and Plank Road. He says the goal is to encourage more diverse business development and attract companies that could bring stronger economic growth.

The proposed ordinance would apply only to those two roads and would not impact the rest of the city…
