Former drug users graduate Baton Rouge recovery court, ‘I will not become a negative statistic’

At a time when the city comes alive to celebrate high school and college graduations, the jury room of the downtown Baton Rouge courthouse filled Friday with similar well-wishers showing love and support for 15 individuals entering a new chapter of their lives.

The graduates walked into the room of the 19th Judicial District Courthouse for the annual Recovery Court graduation with caps and gowns to be recognized for completing a different kind of education.

The 19th Judicial District Court Recovery Court is an 18-month program aimed at helping people with drug addiction overcome addiction, find employment, reduce reincarceration and create stronger members of the Baton Rouge community…
