Don’t ‘believe the hype’: Seattle Mayor Wilson falls short on shelter bed goal, enjoys a Starbucks latte

Seattle won’t get the 500 emergency shelter beds Mayor Katie Wilson aimed to create ahead of the World Cup in June.

The mayor addressed the failure Wednesday, as well as her relationship with Starbucks after enjoying a blueberry muffin latte from the Pike Place Market location.

Mayor Katie Wilson still has the rest of 2026 reach her ambitious plan of creating 1,000 new emergency shelter beds within her first year in office. But she won’t reach her goal this month of building 500 more shelter beds before the FIFA World Cup comes to town…
