Want to see hundreds of baby herons? Go to King County’s busiest dog park

Typically when you spot a great blue heron in Western Washington, you see one flying or fishing alone. But in Redmond, though, a huge group of herons have picked an unusual place to nest.

Close to downtown Redmond lies a small park. It’s a little over four acres with lots of tall evergreens.

This is Heron Rookery park, named after the birds it was intended to protect. The city set up this park decades ago for herons to build their nests and help a species that was almost hunted to extinction…
