Seattle’s expanding light rail system has generated plenty of excitement, and I couldn’t wait to experience it for myself. I wanted to find out whether it was comfortable, convenient, and practical enough to become part of our regular travels.
Linda and I parked at Mercer Island Park & Ride and walked a short block to the Light Rail Station. We found it much easier than expected to purchase tickets.
Earlier we had applied for ORCA cards to qualify for senior fares. Although we had received cards, we had not yet added funds to them. To our surprise, we didn’t need to show proof of age at the ticket machine. We simply selected the type of ticket we wanted, chose the senior fare option, and paid with a credit card. Cash or a funded ORCA card could also be used. For just four dollars we purchased round trip tickets and boarded a train headed toward Redmond. At that time, our tickets were not being checked…
