Renton police step up fireworks patrols as Fourth of July nears

RENTON, Wash. — A 34-year-old Renton man is facing fireworks-related charges after police say officers found illegal fireworks at a city park as authorities step up enforcement ahead of the Fourth of July holiday.

Renton police said officers recently responded to a report of illegal fireworks being discharged at Ron Regis Park, where they found several recently spent large fireworks containers.

Although no one was initially nearby, a police drone operator spotted two people running into a wooded area.

Officers located a vehicle in the park’s parking lot containing fireworks matching those that had just been set off, police said…
