Local student places second at national debate tournament

Incoming Eastlake High School freshman Keshav Arun placed second nationally in Lincoln-Douglas Debate at the 2026 National Speech & Debate Association (NSDA) Middle School National Tournament, which took place from June 16 to 19 in Richmond, Virginia.

The NSDA competition attracts thousands of debaters nationwide. Lincoln-Douglas is a one-on-one format that focuses on philosophy, ethics and public policy, with debaters receiving a new resolution every two months. Competitors must prepare arguments for both sides of each topic. At nationals, the topic examined whether democracies should prioritize civil liberties or national security…
