A one-year-old Seattle boy died with fentanyl in his blood and urine just 18 days after both of his parents failed drug tests and the Washington Department of Children, Youth and Families allowed the children to remain in the home under a “safety plan.”
The case is likely to renew scrutiny of Washington’s controversial Keeping Families Together Act, which raised the threshold for removing children from dangerous homes and has been blamed for leaving children with parents actively using fentanyl and other hard drugs.
