SEATTLE — A battery manufacturer in Seattle’s Interbay neighborhood says a flaw in its battery-making process allowed lead dust to coat a nearby sidewalk, prompting an investigation into elevated lead levels.
Environmental testing found lead levels of 55 parts per million in some areas near the facility, well above Washington’s hazardous waste threshold. The contamination has prompted King County Public Health to warn people to avoid the area when possible while additional testing continues.
