Seattle officials have repeatedly touted declining crime statistics, but Mayor Katie Wilson’s administration is now rolling out $1.7 million in assistance for neighborhood grocery stores — including taxpayer-funded security upgrades for supermarkets the city acknowledges are experiencing high rates of retail theft.
Wilson announced the new program through Seattle’s Office of Economic Development, saying the money will support grocery-store market studies, technical assistance and security improvements.
