Street closure coming near downtown Bremerton for bridge roundabout work

A stretch of 11th Street and Washington Avenue from Pacific Avenue to the Manette Bridge in Bremerton will be closed for approximately three months as the project to install a new roundabout at the bridge’s west end nears completion.

The $8 million project that began in 2023 to rebuild a block of lower Washington Avenue and add a roundabout on the west, or downtown side, of the Manette Bridge is aimed at improving traffic capacity and reduce delays on a busy stretch used frequently by commuters to and from the shipyard or ferry terminal. City studies show that traffic during the evening often backs up on Washington Avenue more than a third of a mile during peak commuting times.

Other improvements include new bike lanes, reconstructed pavement, wider sidewalk and improved curb ramps, as well as better lighting, waterline and storm drainage improvements and flashing beacons to alert drivers of people crossing.

The closure is scheduled to begin on Monday, Feb. 12.
