Seattle Cop Who Said Indian Woman Hit by SUV Had ‘Limited Value’ Faces Disciplinary Decision

The city’s police watchdog group said the officer’s comments ‘undermined public trust in the department, himself, and his colleagues’

A Seattle police officer’s “inhumane” remarks that a graduate student from India had “limited value” after she was struck and killed by another officer last year violated the department’s professional standards and policies, the city’s Office of Police Accountability said.

Police Chief Adrian Diaz will decide on whether to discipline Officer Daniel Auderer, which could include firing, when he and members of his chain of command discuss the watchdog group’s findings, the Seattle Times reported.

A disciplinary hearing was held Tuesday in which the OPA and police leadership discussed the group’s findings. They will recommend any discipline to the chief of police.

The OPA released its report on Tuesday, the one-year anniversary of Jaahnavi Kandula’s death.

The 23-year-old was struck and killed by Officer Kevin Dave who was driving 74 mph in a 25 mph zone as he responded to an overdose call. The probe into the crash is ongoing.
