Get Ready, Washington: Record-Breaking Warm Weather is Expected This Weekend

After experiencing sub-freezing temperatures just a week ago, Western Washington is about to face another surprising weather change.

The region is expected to see unseasonably warm temperatures this weekend, setting new high-temperature records. Along with the warm weather, an atmospheric river will bring heavy rain to the area.

A Yo-Yo Weather Pattern

Just over a week ago, Western Washington was hit by freezing temperatures. However, this week, the region saw a quick rebound with temperatures reaching the lower 50s. It’s unusual, as late January usually experiences temperatures in the upper 40s.

A Warm and Wet Weekend Ahead

This weekend, Western Washington will be hit by a warm and wet weather system, along with an atmospheric river. The region is likely to experience above-average temperatures along with substantial rainfall.

Coastally, three to five inches of rain are expected, while the interior lowlands can expect one to four inches. The mountains are forecasted to receive 5-to-10 inches of precipitation, especially in the Olympics and northern half of the Cascades.
