A driver “forgot” a road was closed when they drove through a construction site and plunged into a ditch, Washington officials said.
At about 9 a.m. Jan. 28, the driver went onto Northeast 85th Street, a collector/distributor ramp on Interstate 405 in Kirkland, Washington State Patrol Trooper Rick Johnson posted to X, formerly known as Twitter.
However, the road was under construction, and the driver went around traffic cones and past signs indicating the road was closed, Johnson said, until they “ended up like this.”
Johnson shared a photo of an SUV, nose-diving into a ditch where the road had been torn up.
He said the driver wasn’t impaired, and they didn’t suffer any injuries in the incident. Johnson said he thinks the driver crashed because they were distracted.
“I am certain the driver was cited however I am not sure what the citation was,” Johnson told McClatchy News.
Kirkland is about 10 miles northeast of Seattle.
