A Seattle city council meeting was interrupted by activists from Stop The Sweeps Seattle and Comunidad Sin Fronteras. They demanded housing for migrants due to be evicted from Kent hotels this month. Despite their requests for financial aid, they did not secure any funds before leaving.

The Seattle Police Department responded, arresting three individuals and clearing the room. Some migrants and activists remained near the building post-meeting. This led the council to call three recesses.

The interruption coincided with a ceremony honoring former Washington state lawmaker and UW Husky George Fleming. Even after being removed from the chambers, the activists continued to make noise outside the windows.

The Seattle City Council issued a statement about the incident. They clarified that the protesters, not the refugees, caused the disruption. They also stated that they have been collaborating with the refugees to provide shelter.

After the incident was resolved, the council resumed its duties. This included passing a resolution to honor the late Senator George Fleming, a decision that received unanimous approval. The senator’s family was present to accept the honor.
