Update: Crashes on I-5 northbound and southbound cleared but traffic still looks bad

Final update (2:30 p.m.): The Department of Transportation is reporting both original crashes on Interstate 5 northbound and southbound have been cleared.

Even with both collisions cleared, traffic appears to still be significantly delayed in both directions of I-5, according to Google Maps.

A new one that’s partially blocking the HOV lane on I-5 North near SR-18 was reported around 2:15 p.m.

Update (2 p.m.): The wreck on northbound Interstate 5 that once had all lanes closed now is blocking the two left lanes, including the HOV lane, according to a tweet by the Department of Transportation on X .

The agency reported traffic is backed up about 5 miles.

Update (1:40 p.m.): Washington’s Department of Transportation reported on X at 1:30 p.m. that the southbound wreck south of SR-516 in Kent has been cleared. However, there does appear to still be major backups between SeaTac and Federal Way.
