Geno Smith left the New York Jets organization following the 2016 campaign as something of a laughing stock, but it was Smith who got the last laugh on Sunday, December 1.
The quarterback had to wait eight years to do so, but he got his revenge by coming into MetLife Stadium as the starter for the Seattle Seahawks and leaving with a 26-21 victory that broke the back of the Jets’ season.
In the process, Smith handed New York its eighth loss in nine games, adding further insult to an already injurious season that could see New York scrap its current blueprint come next spring — specifically with regards to Aaron Rodgers and the QB position.
Smith took something of a victory lap on social media following the win, which dropped the Jets to 3-9 and bumped the Seahawks to 7-5, allowing them to maintain their hold on the NFC West Division lead.
After the game ended, the QB posted the following popular funeral meme to his X account absent a caption, indicating that the Jets’ season is dead and buried with Smith and the Seahawks serving as the proverbial undertakers.
